About us
Thousands of Jews live in Bournemouth and the surrounding areas. Amongst them, many are unaffiliated whose souls thirst for a true understanding of their identity. Our organization is called Chabad - a hebrew acronym for Chochma, Bina and Da'at (wisdom, knowledge and understanding) upon which its philosophy is based.
Chabad teachings, particularly under the inspiration of its seventh Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson of righteous memory, call for reaching every Jew in every corner of the globe and to give them the ability to experience Judaism, with meaning, love and joy. Thus the first Chabad House in Bournemouth was established in 1988 by Lubavitch UK at a premises in Gordon Road, Boscombe, to cater for the spiritual needs of Jews in Bournemouth and the entire southwest region.
In 1989 Rabbi Yossie and Rebbetzen Chanie Alperowitz were appointed as Directors of Chabad of Bournemouth and for the past twenty years, under their guidance and leadership, a wide range of educational and social activities for all segments of the community has been initiated and established, and their success in this field has become world renowned.
The secret of their success is the total commitment to their mission; they are the Shluchim (emissaries) of the Rebbe, (Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson of righteous memory, the Lubavitcher Rebbe), whose guidance and teachings are implemented in their daily lives.
The Rebbe charged them with the task of reaching and helping every single Jew come to closer to G-d. Thus all their activities - from one on one private lessons to a giant Menorah lightings, from Megilah readings for the elderly to Camp Gan Israel, Tzivos Hashem or "Happy Hour" for the children, from donning the Tephilin on a regular weekday to the Neilah prayer on Yom Kippur - are permeated with the same theme.
It is their fervent hope their efforts will achieve the desired goal of making the entire world a place in which G-d can dwell, reaching the fulfilment of the purpose for which G-d had created it, with the coming of the Moshiach.
