On 5 March 2018 - 18 Adar 5778 we had the great honour of hosting Rabbi Professor Avraham Steinberg for a talk on Modern genetics. Rabbi Steinberg captivated the audience for an hour long lecture in which he discussed three primary issues:

1. Identification – using DNA which is unique to each person to identify dead people or parts of body for Agunah, burial, aveilut, and also after the discovery of a unique “Jewish gene” to identify Jewishness.
2. Prevention – using the knowledge of defective genes to prevent marriages and especially to prevent the birth of genetically disabled babies by PGD.

3. Treatment – using CRISPR-CAS9 for gene editing and engineering.

Following his talk, Rabbi Steinberg took questions on many other topics ranging from life support, organ donation, risk of recent medical advances and many others.
